Renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou thinks the whole Novak Djokovic is about the politics and not about the rules as some claim. Djokovic was detained at the Melbourne Airport for nine hours before his visa was cancelled.
Djokovic then spent the next few days in an immigration hotel. Djokovic appealed the decision and on Monday the judge decided to reinstate his visa. However, the situation is not over as Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke could still decide to revoke the Serb’s visa.
“Australian government still threatening to deport someone after justice said they have zero reason for it, says everything about this case. And everything about what might be going on in many other ones. And it’s kinda scary,” Carole Bouchard tweeted.
The Djokovic family happy for the outcome
Djokovic’s father, Srdjan, was thrilled after his son won his case in court.
“Thank you to everyone in the world that has been fighting for the freedom of speech. Various things have happened, and it’s been difficult but he’s extremely strong mentally. He always tried to help, kept a good behaviour,” Srdjan said, per Tennis Majors.
“The last game have been played the past 5 days. Let him now play the game he’s the best in the world at. They took away his rights. They attempted to persuade him to sign his visa revocation. He refused to because there was no reason.
“He was alone with them for several hours, without a phone. He finally had his phone back and could contact his legal team who made a very good work. We respect the law and rules of every country where we go.” Hours after getting his visa reinstated, Djokovic hit the practice courts at Melbourne Park.
